Description
Gatemate Drop Down Bolt 18″ (450mm) – Heavy Duty Galvanised Gate Bolt
Overview
The Gatemate 18″ (450mm) Galvanised Drop Down Bolt is a vital piece of hardware for protecting large-scale exterior gates. When installing wide pairs of driveway gates, a standard horizontal latch isn’t enough to fight off heavy gales; the wind can catch the wide timber faces like a sail, putting immense stress on your hinges and locks. This heavy-duty drop bolt anchors the gate vertically into the ground, locking the structure securely in place.
Forged from thick-gauge solid steel and treated with an industrial hot-dipped galvanised wash, this hardware is trade-rated to handle punishing physical strain and constant exposure to wet soil without structural failure.
Key Features
-
Deep Steel Shoot Engagement: The extended 450mm solid rod bypasses wide ground clearances with ease, sliding deeply into concrete sockets or ground keeps.
-
Anti-Warping Support: Instantly stabilizes the center point of double wooden gates, preventing the timber from twisting or bowing outward over time.
-
Ultimate Corrosion Resistance: Heavily galvanised to stop rust in its tracks, eliminating ugly orange rust streaks from bleeding down your premium treated timber.
-
Flush Rim Mounting: Can be surface-mounted vertically on the face or inside edge of timber frames, garage doors, or agricultural structures.

Installation Tip
Pro Tip: For double driveway gates, install one drop-down bolt on the “passive” gate leaf (the side you open less frequently). This allows you to lock that leaf firmly into the ground so that your primary “active” gate has a rock-solid, unyielding surface to latch against. For smooth operation, drop a short piece of open-ended metal pipe or a dedicated ground socket into a concrete base to act as a debris-free receiver hole.
