Description
Redwood Treated Gate Post 200mm x 200mm x 2.4 m – Heavy Duty Timber Fencing
Overview
When you hang a wide wooden driveway gate or a steel five-bar field gate, it acts as a massive mechanical lever. Every time the gate swings open, hundreds of pounds of dynamic force pull directly on the top hinge, attempting to warp or tilt the post forward. Standard 100mm or even 125mm posts will slowly yield to this constant pressure, causing gates to catch, drag along the ground, and misalign. Our 200mm x 200mm Redwood Gate Post provides the definitive, commercial-grade solution.
As highlighted in the product image, this post features a tight, high-density grain structure unique to premium European Redwood (Pinus sylvestris). Because the timber is subjected to intense hydraulic pressure during chemical treatment, the anti-rot copper triazole solution is forced incredibly deep into the sapwood cells. This ensures that the post remains completely sound at the critical ground-line zone—the exact point where air, soil moisture, and frost combine to attack timber.

Trade Installation & Foundation Sizing Tip
Pro Tip: Because an 8″ x 8″ gate post carries exceptional rotational and lateral leverage, a standard narrow post hole will not cut it. Skimping on the concrete foundation is the number one reason heavy gate setups fail.
The Professional Method: For a 2.4m post supporting a standard 1.2m to 1.5m high gate, you need to sink exactly 800mm to 900mm of the post straight into the ground. Dig a wide hole measuring at least 450mm x 450mm square. Pour a 2-inch layer of dry gravel at the bottom for drainage, sit the post in place, and brace it perfectly plumb. Fill the hole using 3 to 4 bags of rapid-setting Postcrete, layering it with water. Slope the top of the finished concrete plug away from the timber to stop winter puddles from pooling around the post base.
