Description
2 x Redwood Treated Gate Posts 100mm x 100mm x 2.4 m – Heavy Duty Timber Fencing
Overview
A gate is only as good as the posts supporting it. Over time, the weight of a heavy timber gate creates constant downward leverage. If you utilize standard, low-grade fencing posts, they will slowly lean, causing your gate to drag on the floor or fail to latch correctly. Our Pack of 2 Redwood 2.4m Gate Posts offers the structural rigidity needed to handle heavy swinging loads while remaining perfectly balanced.
Unlike basic white spruce which only absorbs surface treatment, European Redwood features an open cellular structure that allows the preservative to penetrate deep into the heartwood core. This makes them exceptionally hardy when buried underground, where soil moisture and bacteria are at their highest concentration. At 2.4 meters long, they provide ample length to be set deep into the driveway or garden threshold, creating an unyielding frame for your perimeter opening.
Key Features
-
Subterranean Root Stability: The 2.4-meter height gives you plenty of overhead clearance while leaving enough timber to sink up to $600\text{mm}$ deep into the ground substrate.
-
Natural Crack Resistance: Redwood’s tight grain characteristics help it distribute internal drying stresses evenly, minimizing the deep surface splits common in cheaper timbers during dry summer spells.
-
Responsibly Sourced Timber: All posts are milled from sustainably managed, slow-grown European forests, ensuring an eco-friendly footprint.
-
Aesthetic Versatility: The subtle pale-green preservative tint fades over time into a natural honey-brown wood hue, which can be easily stained, painted, or treated with exterior timber oils.

Trade Installation & Postcrete Guide
Pro Tip: To mount a standard 1.8m high gate, you should bury roughly 600mm of this 2.4m post into the ground. Dig a hole 300mm wide to give yourself a solid concrete envelope around the base.
Important Step: When cutting a post to length or squaring off the top, always apply an end-grain preservative fluid (like Ensele or similar brush-on treatments) to the freshly cut surface. Even though the timber is pressure treated, cutting it exposes raw wood fibers. Never bury a cut end down into the ground; always keep the original factory-treated end at the bottom of the hole to preserve the structural integrity of the UC4 seal. Use 1.5 to 2 bags of rapid-setting Postcrete per hole for a fast, rock-solid anchor.
