Description
Field Gate Throwover Loop Latch – Timber Gate Hardware for Garden, Driveway & Farm
Overview
The Field Gate Throwover Loop Latch (also known as a loop-over catch) provides an incredibly strong, traditional mechanical link for pairs of timber gates. Standard drop bolts secure individual panels vertically, but they leave room for the center of the gates to rattle or flex apart when pushed. The throwover latch eliminates this weak point entirely. By dropping the solid steel loop bar over the top rail of the adjacent gate leaf, it locks both panels into a single, cohesive barrier that highly resists sagging, prying, and heavy winds.
Its simple, gravity-assisted design is incredibly reliable on active farmyards, fields, and large residential driveways—free of complex internal springs that can jam or wear down over time.
Key Features
-
High-Leverage Central Anchor: Clamps the closing stiles of double gates tightly together, reducing stress on your main hinge posts.
-
Foolproof Flip-Over Design: The long, thick-gauge steel arm swings smoothly on a heavy-duty pivot bolt, allowing for rapid opening and single-handed operation from horseback or vehicles.
-
Ultimate Corrosion Resistance: Heavily galvanised to prevent unsightly orange rust bleeding, keeping your premium treated timber clean and stain-free.
-
Integrated Rest Knobs & Staples: Includes a secure receiving staple to catch the arm flush, preventing livestock from cleverly raising the bar with their nudges.

Installation Tip
Pro Tip: Mount the main pivoting loop bar onto the “active” gate leaf (the side you open first) using the provided heavy M10 coach bolt. When positioning the receiver bracket or staple on the opposite “passive” gate, ensure the loop bar sits completely flat across both top rails when engaged. To prevent the gates from swinging past each other when closed, always install a center gate stop block in the ground below the latching point.
