Pro Tip: Due to the large surface area of a 6ft x 6ft panel, a mature climbing plant like a climbing hydrangea or wisteria can add substantial weight and wind resistance over time.
The Professional Method: Always anchor this panel using heavy-duty structural supports. If you are fixing to timber posts, ensure you use minimum 100mm x 100mm (4″ x 4″) posts sunk at least 600mm into the ground with 1.5 to 2 bags of rapid-setting Postcrete. Secure the trellis to the inside face of the posts using stainless steel L-brackets or heavy-duty framing screws driven through the thick outer perimeter frame. Leave a clear 50mm gap between the bottom of the trellis frame and the soil layer—using a timber gravel board underneath will completely stop wet-earth moisture from wicking up into the lower framing.
