Description
Closeboard Fencing Arris Rail 3 m – Timber Fence Support Rail
Overview
Standard rectangular backing rails can trap water along their top edges, creating localized damp pockets that encourage wood rot to seep into your vertical fencing panels. Our structural 3m Triangular Arris Rail completely bypasses this design flaw. The steep, sloping upper face forces rainwater to run right off, ensuring your internal framing components dry out quickly after heavy downpours.
Milled from slow-grown, high-density softwood, these rails provide immense shear strength. When tucked into the notches of a wooden fence post or slotted into concrete arris brackets, they link your posts into a single, continuous structural unit. This interconnected framework is what gives traditional closeboard fencing its legendary reputation for outlasting pre-assembled budget fence panels in high-wind zones and storm-exposed areas.
Key Features
-
Intelligent Water Shedding: The natural weather-shedding angle prevents water absorption at the critical joint where the vertical boards meet the horizontal rail.
-
Clean Face-Nailing Geometry: Offers a broad, flat surface that accepts fencing nails perfectly, allowing vertical featheredge palings to sit dead-flush across the entire run.
-
Anti-Bleed Corrosion Shield: Advanced premium chemical washes ensure the defensive copper triazole salts bond deeply with the heartwood fibers, eliminating orange staining.
-
Contractor-Preferred Sizing: At 3 meters long, it easily accommodates standard trade bays, but can be cleanly trimmed down on-site for narrower side entries or custom gates.

Trade Installation & Fixing Tip
Pro Tip: To build an ultra-strong 1.8m (6ft) high closeboard fence, you should use exactly three horizontal arris rails per 3m bay (positioned at the top, middle, and bottom of the post).
Fixing Rule: If you are using wooden posts with pre-cut triangular mortise notches, slide the ended tips of the arris rails directly into the slots. If you are working with unnotched blank posts or concrete posts, secure the rails using heavy-duty galvanised Arris Rail Brackets or cleats. Always secure the rails with the sharp apex point facing upwards and the flat side facing outwards toward where the vertical boards will be nailed—this ensures perfect alignment across your boundary line!
