Description
Arris Rail Repair Bracket – Timber Fence Support & Replacement
Overview
When strong gales hit closeboard or featheredge fencing, the immense surface area acts like a sail, transferring thousands of Newtons of force to the ends of the horizontal arris rails. Over time, this repetitive leverage causes the wood grain to split or rot where it meets the post. The Universal Arris Rail Repair Bracket slides right over the failed joint like a structural sleeve, anchoring the loose rail back to the post with the unyielding strength of commercial plate steel.
Unlike alternative repair methods that require taking down large sections of the fence line, this face-mount bracket can be installed completely from one side of the boundary. The multi-hole fixing configuration across both the post flange and the triangular saddle allows you to use heavy-duty exterior wood screws to pull the warped timber components back into a perfectly flush, level, and secure line.

Key Applications
-
Universal Fence Maintenance: Repairing face-fixed or flush-mounted horizontal rails on traditional timber fence lines.
-
Pre-Winter Storm Proofing: Reinforcing older, weathered, or micro-cracked arris rail joints before harsh winter storms strike.
-
Commercial Fencing Repairs: Fast, high-turnaround repair work for landlords, local authorities, and estate managers needing code-compliant perimeter security.
Contractor Fast Installation & “Anti-Split” Pre-Drilling Tip
Pro Tip: Because an arris rail repair bracket forces multiple heavy-duty screws into a very concentrated area near the already weakened or split end of a timber rail, driving screws directly into dry wood can worsen the split, causing the repair to fail.
The Trade Method: Prop up and level your sagging fence bay using a lever or a vehicle jack. Hold the bracket tightly against the joint, and mark your screw holes onto the timber using a pencil. Remove the bracket and use a cordless drill with a 3mm or 4mm wood drill bit to pre-drill pilot holes at least 30mm deep into the arris rail and the post. Replace the bracket and drive your heavy-duty exterior screws home. This removes a small core of wood fibers, allowing the screw threads to cut a clean channel without creating internal outward pressure that could split the timber rail.
