Description
Timber Post Cap – Protective Fence & Gate Post Top
Overview
A quality timber fence or gate installation is an investment that should last for decades. However, untreated or uncovered post tops act like straws, drinking in rainwater right into the core of the timber structure. This consistent dampness leads to premature failure from the top down. Our Flat Timber Post Caps solve this issue elegantly, blending seamlessly with your existing wooden posts to provide a continuous, unified timber aesthetic while acting as a functional umbrella.
The flat design is particularly favored by modern landscape architects and premium contractors. It avoids the bulky look of pyramids or ball finials, creating a sleek, flat baseline across your garden view—especially effective when running stepped fencing along sloped ground lines.

Trade Installation & Fitting Tip
Pro Tip: When installing timber on timber, a small extra step will double the lifespan of the joint.
The Professional Method: Before attaching the cap, apply a liberal coat of brush-on end-grain preservative to the freshly cut top of your fence post. Once dry, add a bead of exterior wood adhesive or exterior silicone to the top surface. Place the flat timber cap squarely on top. To fasten, drive a rust-resistant, countersunk exterior woodscrew down through the top center of the cap into the post. For a flawless aesthetic finish, fill the screw recess with a dab of exterior wood filler before painting or staining!
